Oracle Business Intelligence refer to, Oracle Real-Time Decisions, and. You can choose to install one, two, or all three of these products, using Oracle Business Intelligence Installer. Oracle Business Intelligence Installer creates all the runtime components and the infrastructure for the products you choose to install. After running Oracle Business Intelligence Installer, the installed products share the same Oracle Fusion Middleware infrastructure in a single WebLogic domain.

2 - Articles Related. The By default, the Oracle Business Intelligence components are installed in a cluster configuration and are scalable. You cannot add Oracle Business Intelligence to an existing domain created by Oracle WebLogic Server or another Oracle Fusion Middleware product.

Part 4: Configuring & Starting OBIEE. In obiee 11g, the process was like below. At oracle.as.install.engine.modules.configuration.action.RequestQueue. More Obiee 11g Installation Configuration Process Failed videos.

After running Oracle Business Intelligence 11g Installer, the installed products share the same Oracle Fusion Middleware infrastructure in a single WebLogic domain. All Oracle Business Intelligence products intended for a WebLogic domain must be installed and configured at the same time. You cannot install some products now and then install others to the same WebLogic domain later. For example, if you choose to install and configure Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition but not Oracle Real-Time Decisions, you cannot later add Oracle Real-Time Decisions to the WebLogic domain. Similarly, any WebLogic domains that contain Oracle Business Intelligence 11g products should not be extended later to include other Oracle Fusion Middleware products. 4 - Installation. Type of installation Purpose Definition Simple Install Demonstration and Evaluation Single-User Development Installation with the default settings on a single computer in the minimum number of steps Enterprise Install Enterprise Deployment for Hosted Development and Production Enterprise Install type enables you to specify several more configuration settings than the simple Software Only Install Enterprise Deployment for Highest Levels of Availability and Security Installation of the binary without configuration 5 - System Requirement and certification.

The prerequis verification of the installer will check all package. With an installed, you need only to install one (compat-db-4.1.25-9) that you can get from of from the installation DVD. On, I found the package compat-db-4.2.52-5.1.i386.rpm that I have copied and installed from the tmp directory. tmp# rpm -Uvh compat-db-4.2. If you attempt to install on a machine that is using DHCP, does not have a primary DNS suffix, and does not have a loopback adapter configured, then the Oracle BI installer will stop at the screen prompting for the Administrator user details. This appears as a red cross in the tree on the left hand side of the installer. This issue is caused by the installer not being able to resolve the IP address to a hostname. The workaround is to configure a loopback adapter or primary DNS suffix.

Obiee

To configure a loopback adapter:. Each requires its own set of database schemas. Two or more systems cannot share the same set of schemas (repository). This requirement does not apply when you scale out an Oracle Business Intelligence system.

In a scaled out (clustered) system, you only run RCU and install the database schemas once, before installing the primary node of the Oracle Business Intelligence cluster (the BI domain for the cluster gets created at that time). Additional Oracle Business Intelligence nodes that you install during the scale-out process become members of that domain and, therefore, use the same set of schemas./runInstaller for Linux (without the sh extension) On Windows, if you have downloaded the setup.exe installer in the C: Document and Settings directory, and there is also the C: Documents directory already present on your system, the installer will not start as it will attempt to locate files in C: Documents. The work around is to either remove or rename the C: Documents directory.

The Enterprise install type is not supported when installing on an AIX operating system or with a 64-bit JVM, such as on a supported 64-bit operating system. Instead, use the Software Only Install type. Oracle Business Intelligence 11g Installer automatically assigns the Node Manager port (default = 9556), unless you specify your Oracle Business Intelligence ports manually using a configuration file such as.

However, if installing Oracle Business Intelligence into a shared Fusion Middleware home where Node Manager is installed, Oracle Business Intelligence Platform Installer uses the existing Node Manager and its port number.

This is the fourth (and final!) part of a series of blogs showing how to perform a standard single server/instance installation of OBIEE 12c. In the I covered the prerequisites of JDK and Fusion Middleware. In the I performed the basic software installation for OBIEE; and in the covered creating the database repositories required for OBIEE. In this final part I will perform the configuration of OBIEE 12c. This will setup the domain with Fusion Middleware, configure the BI components and most importantly setup the URLs so you can connect! This is performed with the configuration utility which can be found under /bi/bin You need to be a little careful here, there are two config.sh (config.cmd for windows) files, but in different directories. /bi/bin contains the one for standard single server installations ORACLEHOME/oraclecommon/common/bin contains the one for enterprise deployments.

This is far more comprensive than the single server installation and allows you to configure multiple instances on multiple servers. So to start the standard configuration utility: cd /u01/app/obiee/bi/bin./config.sh As usual this is a graphical wizard, so you may need an x-windows emulator for linux/unix servers. Unusually the welcome screen includes some options – don’t simply skip past as usual! In here you get to choose which BI components you wish to configure:. Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition – the main BI product. Business Intelligence Publisher – if you need “pixel perfect” professional formatted output. Essbase – if you want to use the BI accelerator to speed up reporting for users A quick word on the Essbase option.

There is a new component in OBIEE 12 called the “Essbase Business Intelligence Acceleration Wizard”. This is a tool that will build Essbase cubes based on fact/dimension structures in the RPD.

It will interrogate the RPD for the hierarchies & data sources, build an Essbase ASO cube, load the dimensions and data and finally configure the RPD to use it, all via a small number of simple screens. I will probably blog about this separately later on. However the full Essbase development tools are no longer available. You cannot use the Essbase Admin Console or Essbase Studio to build your own cubes and manually load them into the RPD – that’s not the reason Essbase is included within the OBIEE 12c product suite any more. You can still implement Essbase separately from OBIEE 12c and import the cubes you build into OBIEE just as you could under OBIEE 11g, but that would be a completely separate implementation from OBIEE and of course require specific Essbase licences.

So why would you not simply tick all three options and carry on? I guess if you never intend to use any of these components then there is no point installing them – if you include Essbase then the Essbase agent and associated services will always be running, unnecessarily using resources if you never intend to use it. So select your options and carry on. Then the standard prerequisite checks are performed to ensure the server is configured correctly. I’m not really sure what the difference is between this pre-req check and the same one that happened during the earlier software install (in part 2 of this blog series). The list of checks seems to be identical. So now we need to specify some details for the new BI domain.

All three of the settings for “Location of New Domain” default to the values: Domains Directory: /userprojects/domains Domain Name: bi Domain Home: /userprojects/domains/bi And you can change each of these if you see fit. Right now these are fine for me, so I’m going to leave them as they are.

Beneath these you need to specify the user name and password domain administrator. Again weblogic is the default, but can be changed and you must enter a password. Initially once the OBIEE 12c installation is complete you can login to the Weblogic Console, Enterprise Manager and OBIEE with this user-id (as we’ll see later on). Now the wizard needs to know if you’ve already created the database repository schemas and if so where. This was done in part 3 of this blog series, however you do have the option of not installing the schemas with the RCU and letting this wizard do it for you. If you did use the RCU, then choose ‘use existing schemas’, enter the connection string for the repository database and specify the prefix used on the schema names and the password. There’s an interesting point here.

In the RCU you have the ability to enter a single password for all schemas or individual passwords for each one. But in the screen below you are only asked for one password. I assume this is the password to the xxxBIPLATFORM schema If you decide to skip the RCU step and let this wizard create the schemas the screen appears as below.

There are fewer options available:. The only database type options are Oracle, Oracle RAC or MS SQL Server (no IBM DB2 or MySQL).

You can’t specify different passwords for each schema. You can’t control the tablespaces the schemas are created in.

Next you need to specify the port range for the BI and WLS processes to use. There are quite a few port numbers required and it doesn’t seem to use then sequentially.

Weblogic itself (console and enterprise manager) will get the first port number, the various OBIEE components will get allocated numbers in the next 15 or so, Essbase if included will get some much higher numbers. I’ve left the default port range at 9500 to 9999. Which means the following ports get allocated: Weblogic console/enterprise manager: 9500 OBIEE: 9502 Presentation Services: 9507 BI Server: 9514 BI Schedule: 9511 BI Cluster Controller: 9508 BI Java Hosts: 9510 Essbase Agent: 9799 All of these ports can be found in the enterprise manager after installation. I’ve not so far found any options for specifying specific ports (as per the static-ports.ini file in OBIEE 11g) You’re then asked if you want the sample application installed or your own BI application – this is an interesting new feature allowing you to install OBIEE with a pre-built suite of reports/dashboards etc Definitely worth investigating later on. The summary screen then displays showing the settings you’ve selected and main URLS for accessing the weblogic console, enterprise manager, OBIEE and BI Publisher (they’ve still not renamed this URL from xmlpserver) I usually save the response file at this point so I have a record of these details. Clicking Configure then begins the process This can take a while to run throughtook around 45 minutes for me on a slowish VM.

If you chose to let this wizard create the database repository schemas then it is done during this step as one of the long list of tasks – you shouldn’t see anything happen other than another ‘Success’ tick. Once complete you will get the configuration complete screen: This mentions the ports that have been allocated to each of the OBIEE components except for the BI Server – the one you need to know the most as you’ll need it when you install the client tools and create an ODBC connection for the Administration Tool. If using the default port range it will be on 9514, alternatively look in the enterprise manager. Click finish to close down the configuration wizard. Muhammad Idrees - 16th November 2015 Correct and So Nice. One question please, we dont have the user.cmd file, so how could we let the bi know our tnsnames.ora file location?

We need it in bi administration tool. In obiee 11g, the process was like below Try to connect through oci 10/11g. If connectivity problems occurs, do the following 1.Copy the tnsnames.ora from Oracle Database home (ORACLEHOME NETWORK ADMIN ) to the following locations. O OracleBI1 network admin (Example: C: OBI OracleBI1 network admin) o oraclecommon network admin (Example: C: OBI oraclecommon network admin) 2.Set the TNSADMIN environment variable value with one of the copied locations in the step 1 in user.cmd or user.sh file depending on your OS. This file will be found under instances instance1 bifoundation OracleBIApplication coreapplication setup (Example: C: OBI instances instance2 bifoundation OracleBIApplication coreapplication setup) 3.TNSADMIN= C: app MiddlewareOBIEE OracleBI1 network admin 4.Set ORACLEHOME environmental variable 5.Restart OBIEE services. How to do that in obiee12c because i am not finding one of the TNSNAMES file in obiee and the USER.CMD file Once again, thank you so much for such a nice and thorough blog. Siva Pratap - 3rd December 2015 I’m facing a strange issue.

At the end of the configuration while the BI components were getting started, I received errors saying “nqsserver.exe stopped working”. Installation was completed successfully though. But the Presentation server is not coming up. All the other services are showing alive. When I try to start the PS manually, I receive the same errors “nqserver.exe stopped working” and the BI Server also goes down automatically.

Any thoughts on this please? Sirish Malisetty - 22nd July 2017 This is my 3rd try to install everything from scratch and your 4 blog series helped me complete until the end.

Thanks for such an easy understandable blog!! The last sep under configuration where biserver restarts components failed and when I did./status.sh, i found out that obips1 is SHUTDOWN and for some reason thought Siva Prata – 5th July 2016 post is the resolution. Charles - 21st March 2017 Great posts so far – many thanks firstly.

I do have a quick question I completed my OBIEE 12c installation and can not connect to any URL’s – which I understand is likely because I need to open up the ports on the server. After installing I noticed that the main 3 ports I need seem to be 9500, 9502 and 9514 (this is with a default port range installation) But there are also a large number of other ports as well from what I can tell Presentation Services9507 BI Scheduler/Monitor/Script9511/9512/9513 BI Cluster Controller/Monitor9508/9509 BI Java Hosts9510 Essbase Agent9799 Do the ports for all of these also need to be opened? Or just the above 3 ports 9500, 9502 and 9514 are sufficient? Thanks so much.

Deddy - 23rd March 2017 Hi, I am on installing OBIEE12c in my environment. And everything is running well. Just confused, is this a must, if we follow the steps and create all the schemas? What for the schemas exactly do? What’s the purpose? And what if, all the software has been installed, and i delete the schema, what’s will gonna happen?

Should we create all 8 schemas for this oracle 12c? Please help me to understand this schemas problem. Anyway, Thank you, your steps from part 1- 4 help me to succesfully install the software smoothly. Best Regards, Deddy Sinaga.

Deddy - 28th March 2017 Hi paul, Thank you for your response. Yes, i understand that the BIPLATFROM and MDS schemas is the main schemas of OBIEE. But i already install all the schemas.

I already checked from weblogic console – services – data sources, All the schemas has been registered except the IAU one. Soon or later, i need to change the password for every schema, for other 7 schemas, i can change the password, but for IAU, i can’t, Is there any relationship between schema, meaning, when i changed one schema, it will affect the IAU schemas? Please advise. Thank you for your kind attention Best Regards, Deddy Sinaga.

Ian McPherson - 2nd May 2017 Hi Paul, Thank you very much for putting together these instructions. They are the simplest and clearest that I came across. I’m hoping you can help me with the issue that I’ve come across. When I ran the OBIEE 12c Configuration Assistant, the BI Configuration finished successfully. The BI Startup showed “In Progress” at 0% for hours. I finally went to bed and when I checked the status in the morning, it showed that it completed successful. When I closed the wizard, my browser (like for yourself) did not launch.

When opened it up and entered the URL you provided, I got the message that that page couldn’t be reached. This is all very new to me but I’m assuming the configuration process really didn’t complete successfully. When I tried running the start.cmd to start the servers, I received the following message for the biserver1. Reading domain /Servers/AdminServer/ListenPort=9500 Accessing admin server using URL t3://PC:9500 Starting AdminServer nmStart(AdminServer) succeeded Starting all servers Starting biserver1 (Original State:FAILEDNOTRESTARTABLE) I’ve searched all over for a solution but no luck. I’m at a total loss at the moment.

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Ian BtwI installed OBIEE in Windows 10 on a VM (VMware Fusion 8) on my MacBook Pro. Sols - 5th October 2017 Paul, I want to use a 12c Oracle DB Client to connect my OBIEE 12c installation to my Oracle 12c DB. The oracle client bundled with OBIEE 12c was 11g, which does not support.extended.

data types. My Oracle 12c DB has extended data types, so they cause an error in my OBIEE 12c installation. So I installed a separate Oracle 12c DB Client. How do I get OBIEE 12c to use the separate Oracle 12c DB Client I installed instead of the default 11g client that came bundled with OBIEE 12c? Gopi krishna - 13th November 2017 When I am starting all the components of obiee I am getting bellow output, some components are not getting started could you please look into this, please Starting obips1 (Original State:SHUTDOWN) Received error message from Node Manager Server: Server start command for OBIPS server ‘obips1’ failed due to: Server failed to start up but Node Manager was not aware of the reason.
